An English seaside town has been crowned the ‘coolest’ in the UK and could be your next staycation. Time Out praised one town in the North East , an area renowned for its stunning landscapes, beautiful beaches, top-quality food and drink and friendly atmosphere.

Tynemouth, a gem in the region, made it onto the magazine’s list of the top 20 seaside destinations in the UK, being singled out for its relaxed vibes. The publication praised it by saying: “Britain’s coolest seaside town? Could be.”

The author of the Time Out piece lauds Tynemouth for its successful blend of artisan city cool and wholesome coastal activities, describing it as the ‘perfect salty, seaside package’. Tynemouth boasts King Edward’s Bay and the highly-rated Long Sands Beach, both popular throughout the year for sunbathing in the summer or brisk winter walks.

The town also features stunning architecture, including beautiful houses with views of the North Sea, and plenty of spots to relax and unwind with good food, drinks, and live music.

Tynemouth Priory, a historic site in North Tyneside, is also the annual host of the Mouth of the Tyne festival. Over the years, local music icons such as Sam Fender and Andrew Cushin have graced its stage, along with other big names like Rick Astley, The Proclaimers, Jack Savoretti and Heather Small, reports Chronicle Live.

But it’s not just musicians who are drawn to Tynemouth – the cast of ITV’s hit crime drama Vera has spent considerable time there over the show’s 14-year run, and Strictly stars have been known to visit for a seaside dip before dining at Crusoe’s.

Food critics, including Michel Roux Jr, Rick Stein and Jay Rayner, have also sung the praises of popular local eatery Riley’s Fish Shack.

Elsewhere, Time Out included some well-known seaside escapes on the list as well as some lesser-known gems.
