Gregg Wallace has broken the months-long social media hiatus that he’s embarked upon after receiving backlash over sexual misconduct allegations.

The MasterChef star, 60, found himself at the centre of allegations late last year, and in response, he initially hit back at the accusations, taking to social media to slam the “middle-class women of a certain age” making the claims.

The cook stepped away from MasterChef over the controversy, with the pre-recorded Celebrity Christmas Special episode pulled from the BBC schedule in December.

After apologising for his comments about the women coming forward to issue complaints about his behaviour, which include famous faces such as A Place in the Sun’s Jean Johansson and Penny Lancaster, Wallace issued an apology but has since steered clear of social media.

On Tuesday though, he broke his social media cover for the first time since late November by posting a protein pancake recipe video.

While he wasn’t featured in the clip or provided any commentary, many of his followers in the comments welcomed Wallace back to social media following the unexpected update.

The chef simply captioned the post: “Easy n healthy Gregg Wallace Health,” promoting his health company – and neglected to provide much context or comment on the recent scandal.

Despite the strong backlash he’s received in recent months, many of his social media followers seemed pleased to see him back on Instagram.

“Welcome back Greg,” one penned in the comments, with another echoing: “Welcome back gregg – ya are missed from the factory – not the same.”

“Here he is! Good to have you back pal,” another wrote.

Someone else remarked: “Back where you belong,” while another added: “It’s nice to see you Gregg, I’m so glad you’re back.

“I wish you a happy life with lots of smiles with your beautiful family…” (sic)

It comes after Wallace launched a range of “healthy” frozen meals that can be cooked in the microwave, with his new venture advertised on YouTube amid the investigation launched by production company Banijay and the BBC.

He stated in the clip: “I have been working for quite a while now on frozen ready meals from the GreggWallace.health range of recipes.

“Let’s see how we get on. I have managed to have some time at home and did some cooking.

“It’s a habit I want to get back in to – cooking for the family once a week is something that I really enjoy.”

Banijay UK, MasterChef’s production company, launched an investigation last year following complaints made to the BBC about Wallace’s historical conduct.

The allegations include claims of inappropriate sexual comments, jokes, and talking openly about intimate acts on set.

Some women have accused Wallace of flirting with crew members and asking younger female colleagues for their phone numbers, with at least 13 women coming forward with accusations of inappropriate behaviour.

Wallace has vehemently denied the allegations, insisting that he had never taken part in any wrongdoing.
