Sally Nugent and Jon Kay were back on the iconic red sofa on Wednesday morning (February 5), delivering the latest news headlines from the UK and around the globe.
However, the programme’s flow was disrupted when Sally revealed that a teenager has now been charged with the murder of 15-year-old Harvey Willgoose, who was fatally stabbed at All Saints Catholic High School in Sheffield.
Sally announced: “We’re just going to bring you some breaking news that we’ve had in the last few moments, this has come from the crown prosecution service just a moment ago.”
She continued: “They’ve confirmed that a 15-year-old boy has been charged with the murder of Harvey Willgoose, who was 15, who was stabbed at school in Sheffield earlier this week.”
Adding to the tragic story, Jon said: “It was Monday afternoon the attack took place. No name of course for the boy that’s been charged because of his age. Just 15, the news has just come into us from the CPS.”
On Monday (February 3), Harvey suffered serious injuries at his school around 12:17pm and sadly died shortly afterwards, reports the Express.
Shortly after the incident, South Yorkshire Police announced that a 15-year-old boy had been arrested and charged with Harvey’s murder. The boy who has been charged is due to appear at Sheffield Youth Court later today.
Chris Hartley of the CPS Yorkshire and Humberside has issued a stern reminder: “The Crown Prosecution Service reminds all concerned that criminal proceedings against this defendant are active and that the youth has a right to a fair trial.”
He further stressed the necessity of objective reporting, saying: “It is extremely important that there should be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice these proceedings.”
Meanwhile, the family of Harvey released a heart-wrenching statement: “Our lives are devastated and will never be the same again.”
Continuing, they expressed their profound loss: “We have lost a beloved son, brother, grandson, cousin, nephew and most importantly, a best friend to all. Harvey will be forever known for being a caring, loving and funny young man.”
