POILIEVRE GETS IT

Re “Tory leader offers solutions, not just tariff delay” (Brian Lilley, Feb. 4): Finally someone who gets it, especially our resources. We would do more for climate change by promoting our cleaner resources and selling worldwide, thereby reducing the impact of dirtier sources.

(The Liberals have choked our ability to get our resources to market. Poilievre understands why this is so critical, especially now. We need an election)
NOT A PARTISAN TIME
Just saw Pierre Poilievre’s Canada First speech, and it is now after the trade war is off, at least for now, and I am still angry. The U.S. put us as a country through hell and for what — a good press release? It is the first time in my life (I am an old white guy) that I think we have relied on the U.S. for too much and need more than ever to start to set a more independent course and make some hard choices. We need politicians who have a vision for all Canada and not ones playing the partisan crap we currently have. A lot of what Poilievre said rang true (interprovincial trade, resource management) but others were political stunts (saying the same stuff the government is saying/doing and making it out as if it is his, making out that border security is a huge issue when it is not). But most of all, I have a hard time believing what Poilievre says when the first thing out of his mouth is a partisan statement to recalling Parliament so he can just be prime minister. I am a conservative and want him to balance the budget and live within our means, but all I get is spend on the military and cut taxes — which are great slogans but not a thoughtful plan that will set a realistic course for a more independent Canada. I want better from a prime minister in waiting.
