A house cleaning guru has shared six cleaning hacks she wishes she knew sooner.
Lese Mmolotsi is a digital creator based in Ireland who regularly posts cleaning videos. She has 541,000 followers on Instagram and 50,000 on TikTok, where she has had 3.5 million likes.
The home cleaning pro shared a video on TikTok about six cleaning hacks to tackle dirt on mattresses, radiators, rugs and more. She described them as “effective” cleaning hacks that work for her.
The first is to rub candle wax on sink taps to get them sparkly again, removing any marks. Many people have candles or wax burners in their homes for their nice scents but according to Lese, candle wax can also be used for cleaning.
To clean stains out of mattresses she uses shaving cream. She applies a generous amount to the mattress, scrubs it over the stained area with a brush and then wipes it with a cloth.
Her next hack is to sprinkle bicarbonate of soda on carpet or a rug to “deodorise”. Bicarbonate of soda is a common cleaning product but you might not have thought to use it in this way.
Lese sprinkles the product all over the carpet then hoovers it up. Her fourth home cleaning hack is using a hair dryer to clean dust from a radiator.
She simply moves the hairdryer across the top of the radiator and places a rug underneath to catch all the dust. To keep her bin fresh, she throws cotton balls into it with some essential oil.
Her fifth hack is to use a flat mop to clean kitchen cabinets. She pours some washing up liquid into the sink then soaks the mop head into this cleaning solution before vertical motions to mop her kitchen cabinets.
Lese’s final cleaning hack in her TikTok video involves the use of toothpaste. She uses Colgate toothpaste to clean shower grout by putting the toothpaste directly on the grout and then brushing it to make sure to cover the full affected area.
She finishes off by rinsing the area with water and then drying it with a cloth. Lese’s TikTok video has received a staggering 2.6 million views, 242,000 likes and more than 400 comments.
For her video caption she wrote: “Effective cleaning hacks that work for me! Try them, they will work for you too!” Users shared their thoughts on the hacks in the comment section.
They were particularly impressed with the hairdryer hack as users said “the hairdryer hack on the radiator is genius”, “ngl (not going to lie) using a hairdryer on the radiator is genius” and “definitely trying that hairdryer trick for the radiator!”
Another user added: “Flat mop on cupboards. Oh GENIUS.” A third commented: “Some of the ideas are brilliant.”
