Are you on the hunt for innovative ways to repurpose your food waste? Health guru Cory Rodriguez may be the man to help you out.
Cory has taken to TikTok to share three straightforward methods of recycling at home, which can result in useful, organic kitchen products. In his latest video, he kicks off with a “recipe” for a homemade cleaning solution using lemon peel.
“When you’re done using your lemons, throw them into a jar, add water (236ml approx.) and white vinegar (118ml approx.) and shake,” Cory instructs. After a vigorous shake, he strains the mixture into a spray bottle, proudly announcing: “Now you have an all natural, all homemade all-purpose cleaner.”

He emphasises the need to ensure the peels are fully submerged and advises leaving the sealed jar for a week to allow the ingredients to “infuse”. For his next trick, Cory puts leftover orange peel in a jar, adds water (236ml approx. ) and a tablespoon of witch hazel – a popular natural skin tonic and cleanser, reports the Express.
“Now shake and pour into a spray bottle and now you have a homemade, all natural air freshener,” he reveals. Cory suggests letting it sit for 24 hours at room temperature before straining out the peels and transferring the infused water to a spray bottle.
His final tip involves reusing spent tea bags. “When you’re done with your tea, save your tea bag. Then squeeze out any excess liquid and allow it to dry.”
Once prepared, he suggested that the used tea bag could be “slipped into a smelly shoe” to soak up any unpleasant odours. Cory concluded by saying: “For anyone trying out the first two recipes – a friendly reminder – use a funnel, because if you don’t, you’re going to have liquid all over the place. Save yourself the mess.”
The tips were well-received by TikTok users, with one commenting: “I’ve been doing the lemon all purpose cleaner for years and it’s amazing, degreases and everything and super cheap!” Another user chimed in: “You can also use tea bags to clean mirrors.
“I work in hospitality so we try and use as many natural products so food and drink doesn’t become contaminated. Lemon on it’s own is an amazing degreaser.”
A third person applauded: “Beautiful, yes, let’s stop using all those expensive toxic chemicals they are always trying to convince us that we need.”
A fourth added: “I love citrus and always have it in the house. When I have too many peels I freeze them for later.”
