Good Morning Britain’s Susanna Reid took a moment during Monday’s broadcast to celebrate her co-presenter Ed Balls’ recent accolades away from the ITV morning show.
As they went through the top stories with panellists Andrew Pierce and Kevin Maguire, she brought up his achievement, stating: “Finally before we go. A huge congratulations to Ed Balls for winning these fantastic awards at the Political Podcast Awards 2025 interview of the year. The People’s Choice Award.”
Revealing details about the victory, Ed let viewers know that their category was uniquely public-decided. Susanna chimed in with: “A huge well done.”
Prompted by Andrew’s curiosity regarding the award-winning interview, Ed added: “Michael Gove on the Brexit referendum. We warbled on for about an hour and a half!”
Additionally, Ed also made it clear that he does not work solo on the Political Currency podcast as he co-hosts it alongside George Osborne, reports the Manchester Evening News.
To which Kevin jested: “People can listen and they can hate one of both! That’s the joy of it!” as laughter ensued over his remark. However, Susanna swiftly interjected, adding: “No hate on this programme!”
Following the win, the podcast’s official Twitter posted a video where Ed and George expressed gratitude to their supporters, accompanying the clip with the words: “What a night! Double celebrations at the #PoliticalPodcastAwards. Thanks to everyone who voted for us.”
In the celebratory video, Ed proudly announced: “We’ve just won awards at the Political Podcast of the Year Awards. In fact, we didn’t just win one.”
Taking a dramatic pause, with George revealing the second award in a flourish, Ed continued: “Two! Can you believe it. Not only interview of the year for Michael Gove but also the people’s choice.”
With a touch of humour, George chipped in: “Thank you for voting for us! It’s been a while since we won an election.”
Ed, with a laugh, noted their unexpected triumph, saying: “I was not expecting it at all, so thank you very much.” Concluding their message with a prompt to their audience, they encouraged listeners to stay tuned to the podcast.
Fans and followers were effusive in their response to the win, with comments flooding in. One admirer exclaimed: “Well done, you both deserved it.”
Another added their congrats with a simple: “Congratulations.” Someone else wrote: “Bl***y fantastic work! Well done guys! Who would have thought two blokes from completely opposite ends of the political spectrum would get on so well? Marvellous.”
One fan praised: “So well deserved.” While someone summarised their feelings with a tweet reading: “Love this pod.”
Good Morning Britain continues weekdays on ITV from 6am.
