The origins of Marcus Rashford’s bitter feud with Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim have been revealed, with their relationship breaking down just days into the Portuguese boss’s tenure.

The clash erupted in the lead-up to United’s 4-0 victory over Everton on December 1, Amorim’s third game in charge.

In a heated exchange, Amorim accused the 27-year-old forward of going on a night out and questioned his professionalism.

The confrontation marked the beginning of a deteriorating relationship that has led to Rashford’s extended absence from the first team.

Rashford strongly denied the accusations, maintaining his innocence in the face of Amorim’s claims.

The England international directly challenged his manager, demanding to know if he was being accused of lying.

According to The Sun, Rashford pressed Amorim to provide evidence to support the allegations about his nighttime activities.

The confrontation proved to be a critical turning point, with sources indicating their relationship has never recovered from this initial clash.

Rashford has not featured in United’s last 12 matches since the December fallout.

This is not the first time the forward has faced controversy over his nightlife activities.

In January 2024, then-manager Erik ten Hag dropped Rashford for an FA Cup match against Newport County after he was spotted partying in Belfast before claiming illness.

The incident reportedly saw Rashford face a potential £650,000 fine – equivalent to two weeks’ wages.

He had previously drawn criticism from Ten Hag in October 2023 for partying on his birthday hours after a Manchester derby defeat.

Amorim’s frustration with Rashford reached new heights last week when he made a remarkable statement following United’s 1-0 win at Fulham.

The Portuguese manager declared he would rather play his 63-year-old goalkeeper coach Jorge Vital than select Rashford.

“I will put Vital on before I put a player that doesn’t give the maximum. I will not change in that department,” Amorim said.

Despite the tension, Amorim has indicated he would welcome Rashford back, stating: “Our team should be so much better with Rashford, but Rashford has to change.”

In a stark contrast to his stance on Rashford, Amorim recently praised Alejandro Garnacho’s transformation in attitude.

“He changed right away since that game from City,” Amorim said of Garnacho. “The way he understands things and understands that I just want to help him.”

Rashford has scored seven goals in 23 appearances this season for United.

The forward’s future at Old Trafford remains uncertain, with January transfer links to several clubs including Aston Villa, AC Milan, and Borussia Dortmund.
