I can’t remember a more satisfying feeling as a gamer of over 40 years, than the one I got when I first tried the Crush….. The weight of the controller is the very first thing you notice, it’s a very weighty product and is considerably heavier than your normal controller.

Rather than that being a negative, it’s actually a massive positive in terms of comfort and control, it’s a premium offering, and the weight reflects the quality of the zinc alloy materials used. The concept of the design is an unusual one. It is based on the Porsche 550 Spyder – with a streamline, stylish, metallic design.

In terms of button placement, it’s a classic controller, but in every other sense of the word, it is anything but the expected. The controller is painstakingly hand made with each one being unique with hand polishing and a battle scarred, worn appearance.

It’s hard to describe why it feels such a great thing to own, I think it just oozes the kind of ‘cool’ us middle-aged men need in our lives.

It’s a seriously sophisticated design and appearance, but that obviously needs to be backed up with an effective gaming experience.

The user experience with this controller is really good. The high end visuals and feel are backed up with a quality production.

I felt it to be highly responsive in terms of the buttons and I loved the feel of the sticks, which I had feared would be slippy. I’d seen comments to that end, but I haven’t found it to be the case. battle-scarredThere rubber tops available if it’s not for you.

The Hall Effect technology is included which eliminates the annoyance of stick drift on the controller. If you’ve ever had that with a controller you will know how annoying it is.

The overall feel of playing games on this is a satisfying one. The controls are smooth and responsive, the button clicks are as satisfying as a good mechanical keyboard.

What don’t I like?

Well, you probably would get a bad wrist if you held it for hours, it is weighty, but who plays for that many hours anyway? I had no issues with it.

It’s a multi-device controller that only doesn’t support Xbox and PlayStation – for many people, they would be the first two. But it is very open about what platforms it supports.

As mentioned at the start, this controller is as my kids would say ‘sick’ – it looks the business, and it feels the same. If you are feeling flush, you could splash out on a lot worse. Certainly it’s a real talking point bit of tech.

Reviews from PB Tails website

Mister Grey: The PB Tails is near perfect. Insanely responsive and hair triggers. I literally was turning off one controller and turning on the other and vice versa to test the responsiveness of the triggers and the PB Tails is superior. As for looks, no other controller that I own looks this good.

Harry: when i first received the controller the right thumbstick was getting stuck to the bottom right. I took the thumbstick top off and reattached it, this fixed it so it wasn’t a huge issue. I dont think there is a way to check the batteries state of charge which is a bit annoying. Overall this is a great feeling controller, love the materials and design, the buttons and dpad feel good and the TMR thumbsticks are the big highlight and feel amazing. I think the price is quite reasonable considering the quality of the controller and its unique design so i can easily recommend it.

The PB Tails Crush Defender controller is available currently for £91.
