Glenavon have released a statement confirming they will be reimbursing fans who have to pay the full amount for tickets for their primary school aged children for Saturday’s Irish Cup clash with Cliftonville.
Lurgan Blues fans were left dismayed when they went to purchase tickets for the game at Solitude only to discover that the option to purchase reduced price tickets for children was not available.
Earlier in the day, Glenavon revealed that, through communication between the clubs, Cliftonville would not be offering £2 for primary school aged children.
But chairman Glen Emerson has assured fans that they will be covering the difference in order to encourage a large travelling support to head to the game and thank them for their support throughout a tough season, describing the situation as “disappointing”.
“The situation regarding tickets for tomorrow’s game is disappointing and the last thing we want is for our loyal fans to be put off coming to support us in a vital cup match because it’s too expensive,” read the statement.
“We feel that it’s only right then that the board make this gesture to our fans as a means of thanks for their support in what has been difficult season. We’re on the up now and that’s not just down to Paddy and the squad but also the support from the terraces. And so we want everyone who can possibly make it to Solitude tomorrow to be there.”
Fans who are looking for a refund are required to bring their valid concession ticket from Saturday’s game against Cliftonville to Glenavon’s next home game which, ironically, is against Cliftonville on February 15.
