The Chase fans were left seething on Thursday (January 30) after a contestant managed to evade elimination three times.
In the latest episode of the ITV quiz show, Taven, Sharron, Rumun and Sally went head-to-head with The Dark Destroyer, Shaun Wallace, in an attempt to win a hefty cash prize.
After Taven and Sharron were knocked out, it was Rumun’s turn to face the chase. The Manchester-based contestant racked up an impressive £8,000 in his cash builder, leading Shaun to commend his “quality performance”.
“Pulled out some great answers in the cash builder mate. You’re a good player, a really good player,” he said. Despite losing the first two players, Rumun opted for the middle offer.
He started off well, but soon began to falter, with Shaun closing in. However, Shaun also started answering multiple questions incorrectly, giving Rumun more chances to stay in the game.
“I tell you what, you are absolutely playing a blinder with the old pressure presses, mate. That is an unbelievable tactic you’re using there,” an astonished Bradley Walsh commented.
After evading capture three times, Shaun finally caught Rumun on the last question, reports the Liverpool Echo.
“You should have gone the first time, but it made it an exciting final chase,” he admitted with a sigh of relief.
“Superb player, for a young player as well. We get a lot of young players who come on and sort of freeze, but he was absolutely fantastic. Especially in the head-to-heads.”
Fans swiftly voiced their annoyance on X (formerly known as Twitter) over the contest, with one posting: “How the F has Shaun let him off three times.”
“Going to be here all night at this rate,” commented another, as a third remarked: “Not happening with this game today, even Brad looks like he’s given up.”
A fourth viewer expressed similar frustration: “THREE attempts to get him out and Shaun has missed each time!”
