BBC DIY SOS star Nick Knowles has received a raft of supportive messages after sharing a health update with his many social media followers. The 62-year-old signed up for the most recent series of Strictly Come Dancing, but had to bow out earlier after landing badly on his knee.

It was later revealed that Knowles, who had been paired up with professional dancer Luba Mushtuk on the BBC dance show, had torn his Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) – a crucial tissue that helps keep the knee joint stable. This can take as long as a year to heal, but on Thursday evening, the TV presenter shared a hugely positive update.

He said: “Can’t tell you how exciting it is to be simply walking. Huge thanks to my brilliant surgeon Mr Jig Patel and my physio Adam Eustace. Plenty of physio work ahead but I’m ready for it, and ready to get back to work”.

Fans have been quick to respond in the post’s comments section, with many sending messages of support. One wrote: “Incredible Nick. You’ve obviously listened to what the docs have said and done everything right. Onwards and upwards”.

A second said: “Be running a marathon next. Amazing work” and a third added: “Bet you’re glad to be back on your feet”. Knowles previously said he initially downplayed how serious his injury was until his departure.

According to the Mirror, he admitted on BBC Radio Wales: “I was trying to play it down, because I was determined to go out dancing rather than sort of go out with the injury… I had the operation four weeks ago and that’s all recovering quite nicely.”
