Keeping your kitchen and its appliances clean doesn’t need to be a daunting task. While it might be tempting to reach for a multitude of cleaning products, experts have revealed a much simpler method that uses fewer harsh chemicals.
They suggest a single tool could be the key to achieving a gleaming finish. Before you grab any commercial or DIY cleaning solutions, consider starting with a sponge, reports the Express.
This common household item could be the solution to cleaning your microwave effectively. Jennifer Rodriguez, chief hygiene officer at Pro Housekeepers, shared with NBC News a straightforward tip for tackling microwave mess: just “nuke” a clean sponge.
To do this, place a damp sponge or cloth in the microwave and run it on high for two minutes. This process helps loosen food particles and grime stuck inside the microwave.
After allowing the microwave to cool, use the same sponge to easily wipe away the softened grime from the interior. Jennifer explained: “This will kill bacteria. Then use a sponge or cloth to wipe down the microwave.”
Whirlpool also notes that regular microwaving of the sponge not only keeps it clean but also kills bacteria. The hack helps kill bacteria by the heat generated in the microwave can reach high temperatures that are capable of deactivating a significant amount of bacteria.
The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has stated that microwaving sponges eliminates 99.99999 per cent of bacteria, while dishwashing eradicates 99.9998 per cent of bacteria.
