Five suspects were nabbed and a sixth remains outstanding following a failed smash-and-grab-style robbery Saturday at a jewelry store in Markham.
York Regional Police released dramatic video footage of the takedown, including the moment the suspects were nabbed.
Officers were called on Saturday at about 5:30 p.m. to a jewelry store in the Denison St.-Kennedy Rd. area for reports of an attempted robbery.
Police said two suspicious vehicles were seen – one acting as a lookout, while the second dropped off four suspects. The suspects were seen carrying sledgehammers and garbage bags as they approached the jewelry store, however, they failed to gain access as the store had closed for the day.
The suspects fled with three of them returning to the waiting suspect vehicle.
With help from the emergency response, canine and air support units, the two vehicles were contained and five suspects were taken into custody after a brief foot pursuit captured on video.
A replica firearm was seized and a stolen vehicle was recovered.
Police have released photos of the adult suspects as investigators believe they are responsible for additional offences.
Numan Khan, 27, of Vaughan, was charged with robbery and carrying a concealed weapon.
Tyrese Morgan, 21, of Brampton, was charged with robbery, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, possession of an automobile master key and disguise with intent.
A 14-year-old, a 15-year-old and a 17-year-old, all from Toronto, have each been charged with robbery, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 and disguise with intent.
