New data has shown that South West England is one of the most popular places for UK staycations. Verdant Leisure surveyed 1,000 people and analysed data from TripAdvisor and AllTrails to discover the most popular regions for staycations.

They also worked out the best months to travel to each location, as well as the most popular activities were in the area.

Travellers were asked where they most want to holiday in the UK in 2025, with the South West coming third.

Scotland was the most popular destination, with 62% of respondents citing the country as their first pick, 29% of Brits said the South West was on their bucket list of travel hotspots to visit this year. The North East came second.

One area in the South West proved most popular amongst holiday makers and that was Woolacombe in North Devon, just two hours from Bristol by car.

Home to the number one beach in the UK, its a great spot for surfers as well as families. Woolacombe Beach stretches over three miles and is known for its cleanliness, water facilities.

Verdant Leisure’s research found The Jube to be one of the most popular pubs in the area, described as “a hidden gem”, the venue caters to vegetarians, vegans, and offers gluten-free options, making it a great option for all.

If you enjoy long walks, Woolacombe is also perfect. The Morte Point and Bull Point Circular was considered the best walking route. The National Trust describes the route as challenging, and says it takes roughly 2 hours 30 minutes to complete.

The terrain is steep and rocky, with high cliffs and steep valleys. In wet weather paths can be muddy and slippery.

Described as “a great place to enjoy the dramatic scenery of rocky headlands, secluded coves and sandy bays,” this coastal walk could have you spotting seals, birds, and other wildlife.

Other destinations on the list include Wooler in Northumberland, North York Moors, and The Lake District.
