Richard Madeley shared a memory about the time he prepared lunch for culinary icon Jamie Oliver.

During Tuesday’s (January 28) edition of Good Morning Britain, the seasoned broadcaster, aged 68, was chatting with his colleague Susanna Reid and Scottish presenter Lorraine Kelly about her upcoming guests, when Jamie Oliver, 49, came up in the discussion.

The TV-host then recounted a moment when he had to be forthright with the celebrity chef after inviting him over and finding Jamie repeatedly heading into the kitchen to lend a hand with the meal.

Previously, the GMB anchor confessed his love for cooking and it seems he wasn’t too pleased with any disruptions while he was busy in the kitchen.

Richard exclaimed: “He came to lunch at our house a few years ago,” prompting Lorraine to respond: “Oh for goodness, was that not a bit intimidating?” reports the Manchester Evening News.

To which Richard confidently replied: “No, I’m not intimidated by him.” as Lorraine clarified: “But cooking for him I mean!” This led Richard to reminisce: “He did keep coming into the kitchen and offering to help, I had to get quite blunt with him, ‘out of my kitchen’.”

Lorraine, however, would have taken a different approach, telling the ex-This Morning presenter that she would have allowed Jamie to take charge, humorously remarking: “Oh no, I would have just let him do it all.”

Susanna then inquired: “Did he eat everything that was offered?” A delighted Richard responded affirmatively: “Yes he did.” To which his co-host added: “Oh good, that’s the seal of approval,” with Lorraine agreeing: “Absolutely.”

Jamie Oliver’s name was brought up after Lorraine mentioned that the celebrity chef would be joining her in the studio for a chat later on.

It comes as Richard’s former son-in-law James Haskell, who was married to the presenter’s daughter Chloe Madeley – they split in 2023, admitted he previously threw Richard out the kitchen for a ‘stress-free’ Christmas.

The rugby champ said of the Good Morning Britain host during an interview on This Morning in 2023: “He can get quite fiery in the kitchen.”

He went on to recall the first time he met the longtime TV presenter on Boxing Day and the warning his then-wife Chloe gave him.

He said: “I was told he can be a little bit tricky in the kitchen, don’t go in there. Of course that was a red rag to a bull.”

Smiling, he added: “Son-in-law wanting to make a good impression, so I went in there and gave him a bit of chat. He used one of those F-words.”

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV1, from 6am.
