A 48-year-old man has been arrested following an operation in Dungannon yesterday after reports that a gun was pointed at a taxi driver.

Police confirmed on Tuesday the man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm or imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.

They said he currently remains in police custody.

It follows a significant operation in the town after the reports emerged yesterday morning, with businesses and local people disrupted from accessing the Market Square area.

PSNI Detective Sergeant Curley said: “The police cordon in Market Square has been removed however extensive searches are continuing in the area.

“I am appealing to anyone who may come across any suspicious items, or anything they believe may be a firearm, not touch it but contact police immediately.

“Enquiries are ongoing and witnesses or those with information can get in touch with detectives by calling 101, quoting reference 150 27/01/25.”
