The internet has once again served as a treasure trove for life hacks, with one woman’s revelation about boil in the bag rice taking TikTok by storm. A TikTok user, known as ‘Broke until payday’, uploaded a video expressing her shock upon discovering that boil in the bag rice wasn’t the peculiar product she had imagined, reports the Mirror.

“Why am I stupid? Because I thought boil in bag rice was like some special kind of rice,” she confessed. “So the other day I told my mum to run to Asda because I had run out of rice. And she was like ‘ah all they have is boil in the bag rice.’ So I was thinking ‘ah I don’t like boil in the bag rice’. But just pick it up because we need rice.”

Her initial dismay at not having her preferred ‘normal’ basmati rice quickly turned to surprise as she inspected the box of boil in the bag rice more closely. She said: “So I’m looking at the packages now and I’m like this is just normal basmati rice that I buy anyway but not in a bag. Surely you must be able to cut open and just boil it without it being in the bag.

“I honestly honestly thought in all my 41 years of life that boil in the bag rice was some special kind of rice for people that can’t cook rice, so they made special rice and put it in a bag.”

A woman’s cooking hack has stirred up quite the conversation online after she shared her discovery that boil-in-the-bag rice can be cooked just like regular rice. She continued: “So I was today years old when I learned that so I just cut all the rice out of the packages because who boils rice in a bag anyways? If you do, no judgement. But look how it came out, it just came out like normal regular rice.”

She demonstrated with a pot of perfectly cooked rice, which she had fluffed and buttered, ready to accompany her meal. She advised viewers, “So all that to say, if you run out of rice and all they have in the shop is boil in the bag rice, you can buy that,”.

The clip has divided opinions, with some questioning her method of cutting open the bags. One viewer said, “I don’t understand why you cut it open and emptied it, it cooks exactly the same,” prompting the TikTok user to respond, “Because I don’t like boil in a bag rice.”

Another suggested, “Boil in the bag is just for people who can’t cook as when it’s completely expanded you know it’s done and it’s easier to clean the pan,” while someone else pointed out, “It’s portioned that’s why it’s in a bag and also makes it easier.”

Another said: “I had this conversation in reverse with my ex…he only bought boil in the bag rice, and when I explained to him it was exactly the same as the packer I bought, he was so confused.”
