The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has announced changes to personal independence payments (PIP) from April 2025. This will affect the 3.6 million adults across Great Britain who currently claim PIP.

At the moment, PIP claimants receive between £114.80 and £737.20 every four-weeks, depending on a number of factors. However, benefits are set to rise 1.7% in April 2025, a rise that’s in line with inflation figures from September 2024.

This means, if you currently claim PIP, you should receive a letter confirming the increase. The Mirror have calculated how much PIP claimants should receive from April, based on the two components of the award.

Daily living

Enhanced from £108.55 to £110.40

Standard from £72.65 to £73.89

Mobility

Enhanced from £75.75 to £77.04

Standard from £28.70 to £29.19

The increases mean those entitled to the full rate can now receive up to £187.45 a week, which is around £749.80 a month. Those who are eligible for the mobility component can also opt for a Motability vehicle instead of payments.

Who can claim PIP?

PIP is not means-tested and people who claim it may be employed, studying, or out of work. The money can be used to help pay for care, or for day to day living costs. The eligibility criteria for PIP are:

  • You are 16 or over
  • You have a long-term physical or mental health condition or disability
  • You have difficulty completing certain tasks or moving around
  • Your difficulties are expected to last for 12 months or more from when they started.

The government has further information available at: gov.uk/pip. You can find out more about what PIP can be used for, as well as the process of applying, and any further assistance you may be able to get from blue badges to bus passes.
