Davina McCall has spoken candidly about her debilitating health anxieties, which left her convinced she was “going to die”.
In a recent interview with the Times, the Masked Singer star and former Big Brother presenter recounted a family trip to Ibiza last year, where her fears spiralled out of control.
Initially, the holiday was going well, with Davina enjoying clubbing with her kids and making a conscious effort to let go of her health worries, saying: “I’m going to stop being so anxious about health. I went clubbing with my kids in Ibiza this year and it was brilliant. I was always tucked up in bed by 1.30am — no all-nighters.”
However, upon returning to her accommodation, a glance at her sports watch sparked a disturbing thought: “But even then I was thinking, “God, my sports watch says I’m going to get a bad night’s sleep here… I’m going to die.”
Determined to put her fears behind her, Davina vowed to ditch her sports watch and stop worrying, adding: “What I really want to do is bin the sports watch and stop worrying. It might make me live for a shorter amount of time, but so what?”
This comes after Davina revealed on Instagram two months ago that she had been diagnosed with a benign colloid cyst, which was successfully removed through surgery, and she has since reassured fans that she is “on the other side”.
The 57-year-old has also noticed one particular change since her recent operation, telling fans that: “My short-term memory is a bit remiss but that’s something I can work on. I’m writing down everything I’m doing to keep myself feeling safe.”
Having carved out an incredibly successful career, Davina has become a familiar face on UK television, hosting popular shows like Long Lost Family and The Masked Singer. She rose to fame as the iconic host of Big Brother as well as the celebrity edition of the reality TV show.
Catch Davina alongside Jonathan Ross, Maya Jama, and Mo Gilligan as they reveal another celebrity on The Masked Singer tonight at 7pm on ITV.
