CNN anchor Jim Acosta, a staunch critic of U.S. President Donald Trump, may decide to jump ship from the cable network after being left off the company’s retooled weekday lineup.
Acosta, who hosts CNN Newsroom with Jim Acosta at 10 a.m., was reportedly offered a two-hour timeslot beginning at midnight on the East Coast when talks of a reshuffle recently emerged.
His timeslot was replaced by the network with The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer and Pamela Brown.
“We are in active discussions with Jim about a new time slot and will have more information to share soon,” a CNN spokesperson told Fox News.
CNN management reportedly said he wouldn’t necessarily need to move to the West Coast and gave him the option to stay in Washington, D.C., where he lives.
“Acosta is a talented broadcaster who could handle any slot on the network,” a CNN staffer told Fox News. “The midnight thing is shocking (but) it is what it is.”
Sources told the Los Angeles Times this week that Acosta and CNN are still in talks that could see the host move to California to take over the midnight timeslot, which would be prime-time hours on the West Coast.
If not, he could move on to another broadcaster, the report said.

Acosta joined CNN in 2007 and became the news network’s chief White House correspondent during Trump’s first term.
He is known for sparring with Trump administration officials over the years, including this week’s grilling of Republican lawmaker Tim Burchett of Tennessee over Trump pardoning more than 1,500 people convicted in the Jan. 6, 2021, violent riots at the U.S. Capitol building.
In addition to the schedule changes, CNN announced about 200 layoffs Thursday as part of its pivot to digital operations and new TV roles for personalities like Blitzer, Jake Tapper and Audie Cornish.
