Five people have been taken to hospital following a serious multi-vehicle crash on the M1 in Belfast.
The three-vehicle collision happened just before junction 3 – before Blacks Road.
A spokesman for the NIAS said: “The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service received a 999 call at 6:35pm on Thursday 23 January following reports of a three vehicle RTC on M1.
“NIAS despatched 1 Rapid Response Paramedic, 1 Advanced , 5 Ambulance Crews and an Ambulance Officer to the incident.
“Ambulance Control also despatched the HEMS Team to attend by response car. Following assessment and initial treatment at the scene, 5 patients were taken by ambulance to RVH.”
A PSNI spokesman said: “Road users are advised that the M1 is closed in both directions between Saintfield Road and Stockmans Lane due to a three-vehicle road traffic collision.
“Please avoid the area and seek an alternative route for your journey.”
