Ford is recalling more than a quarter of a million newer trucks and SUVs in the U.S. because their 12-volt batteries may prematurely degrade and fail; it’s unclear yet how many examples of the vehicles may be afflicted with the same defect in Canada. Model-year-2021 through -2023 Ford Bronco Sport; and model-year-2022 and -2023 Maverick pickups are covered by the safety campaign Stateside.
Of the 272,817 examples of these vehicles under recall, some may have their batteries “suddenly fail,” says the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). “Battery failure can result in a loss of electrical accessories, including the hazard lights, or cause a loss of drive power, increasing the risk of a crash,” the body reports.
The fix quite simply involves an inspection and, if necessary, the replacement of the vehicle’s battery, free of charge.
