A posh London restaurant has caused a stir with its £56 Full English breakfast. The Ritz, the renowned five-star hotel situated in London, is serving up what might be one of the country’s most expensive breakfasts – and it’s missing two crucial items.
Despite its reputation for lavishness, The Ritz commands this steep sum for a quintessential British brekkie, with the option to add on some extravagant extras.
The menu specifies that the breakfast comes with two eggs – “cooked to your preference” – accompanied by back bacon, Cumberland sausage, grilled mushrooms, and vine tomatoes, all washed down with a classic cup of English tea. For those feeling extravagant, there’s an option to “enhance” the meal with indulgences like beluga caviar, which will set you back a whopping £402 for 30g or £750 for 50g.
It’s also noted that the price includes the hotel’s continental breakfast, normally priced at £46, offering freshly baked pastries, juice, and other choices.
What you won’t find on The Ritz’s take on the Full English are hash browns and beans. Regardless, the price tag for The Ritz’s Full English has seen a significant hike; just two years prior, it was listed at £40.
This breakfast experience costs nearly tenfold compared to a Wetherspoons’ version, yet customers who have splashed out on The Ritz’s sumptuous spread have lauded its “amazing” quality.
The Ritz is currently enjoying a glowing five-star reputation on TripAdvisor, with a delighted patron effusing: “Breakfast at The Ritz is a joy and worth every penny”. However, it’s not just this esteemed establishment offering high-end breakfasts in the capital.
At another luxury venue, Claridge’s, prepare to fork out £32 for a Full English, though prices fluctuate based on where you choose to dine within its opulent walls. Opting for breakfast in the sumptuous Foyer and Reading Room will set you back around £45, but choosing the terrace bar can slightly lessen the financial blow to £40 for the equally lavish fry-up.
If a morning tipple is part of your desired start to the day, brace yourself to spend an additional £8 to £9.50 per drink. But here comes a saving grace: the very same Claridge’s establishment offers the complete English breakfast in their Restaurant for a more budget-friendly £32 – a neat save of £13 when compared to the more expensive Foyer and Reading Room.
What’s more – the economically priced option doesn’t skimp on the offerings, boasting a plate filled with “eggs any style”, along with pork sausage, smoked bacon, black pudding, field mushroom, San Marzano tomato, and baked beans.
