O2 has issued an important alert to anyone looking for an iPhone or Android upgrade. While it’s easy to toss your old device aside, the phone network encourages users to trade it in instead, as you may receive a cash benefit.

Shocking figures from Virgin Media O2 indicate that average UK households could be losing out on at least £200 by neglecting old phones and laptops left forgotten in cupboards. If you’re keen to trade, it’s crucial to do this as soon as possible, as a device’s value plummets over time.

Reflecting on the research, O2 told the Mirror: “Research from Virgin Media O2 has revealed the average UK household is sat on over £218 worth of unwanted mobile phones, but only one in ten (11%) Brits has traded in a device in the last five years.

“Sell your unwanted mobile, laptop or tech as soon as you’re done with it. The sooner you sell it, the more money you’re likely to get for it.”

Beyond the financial benefits, traded-in devices are often recycled, which is more beneficial for the environment. Those curious about their device’s value can check O2’s Recycle website by entering details like make, model, and condition.
