Max O’Leary – 6
Could do little to stop Djedi Gassama’s opener and pulled off a good save to deny Barry Bannan and many others. His distribution was by no means perfect, but he was his usual self between the City posts.
Luke McNally – 7
Probably the Robins’ best defender again this evening. Seemed to win almost every duel he entered and and was fairly consistent on the ball. Of course, will be frustrated to concede twice but made up for it with the assist for Ross McCrorie’s late leveller.
Rob Dickie – 6
As was the case at Coventry, his distribution wasn’t near his usual standard as several of his passes found players in blue and white under no real pressure. Did get better on the ball as the game wore on and seemed to have the better of Wednesday in the air. His pass allowed Mark Sykes to find Nahki Wells early in the second half.
Zak Vyner – 5
Not the right-sided defender’s best evening. Did have a lot of work to do given the attacking players ahead of him on the right flank, but made it too easy for his opposite number to get into dangerous positions. Perhaps that’s to be expected with Sykes ahead of him rather than McCrorie.
Ross McCrorie (off for Haydon Roberts, 90′) – 7
He may not have had his best game at Hillsborough, but what a time to grab your first goal for the club. He battled away down the left wing despite being out of position and deserved his moment. Let’s hope it is the first of many for the former Aberdeen man in Bristol City colours.
Jason Knight – 6
Probably the Reds’ best player in the opening half. Did what he could to keep Bannan quiet and as usual covered every blade of grass. Added some much-needed energy on the ball at the start of the second period as well, even if it he faded slightly.
Max Bird – 5
The former Derby County man was not at his best at Hillsborough. Struggled to get the ball down and play as he did over the Christmas period and seems to lose too many of his duels out of possession. Perhaps the pitch didn’t help him or his teammates.
Mark Sykes (off for George Tanner, 90′) – 8
Handed his first start since November and played a peach of a pass to pick out Nahki Wells for the Robins’ goal and another smart cross for the late leveller. Did what was needed of him out of possession and showed that he can be a real asset in the final third as well. Another good option for Manning to have on the right alongside McCrorie and George Tanner.
Yu Hirakawa (off for Anis Mehmeti, 63′) – 5
In for Anis Mehmeti as one of the two number 10s and although he got on the ball a lot, he didn’t always appear to be comfortable out of possession and was being coached through the game by Liam Manning at times. Still looks dangerous when you get the ball into his feet, however.
Scott Twine (off for George Earthy, 63′) – 5
The attacking midfielder was a bit better than he was at the CBS Arena, but still not as influential as he was over the festive period. Some neat pieces of footwork and a couple of good interchanges with those around him, but wasn’t able to produce that moment of quality needed to either find the net himself or produce a scoring chance for a teammate.

Nahki Wells (off for Sam Bell, 63′) – 7
He may have been isolated for much of the game, but he found the net when it mattered. Timed his run well to head home Sykes’ cross and guided it brilliantly into the net. Hopefully, that goal will do his confidence a world of good.
Substitutes:
Sam Bell – 6
Came on as the number nine and didn’t see an awful lot of the ball. Ran the channels as he always does and could have secured all three points late on.
George Earthy – 6
Got his first genuine run out as a 10 for the first time in a few weeks and showed flashes of what he can do. Came close on one or two occasions and in general looked bright.
Anis Mehmeti – 6
Did what he could to try and get involved and added a bit of directness to the Reds’ play.
