These Bristol flats could be one of the narrowest homes in Britain – a block of flats that appear barely wide enough to live in. The row of homes, in New Station Road, Fishponds, seem to be just 3ft thick, leaving many locals puzzled.
Some have compared it to the famous Flatiron Building in New York City. One neighbour commented: “The first time we saw it, we thought it was so odd. It reminds us of the Flatiron we always compare it to that. It’s nice because it’s different.
“It’s kind of interesting, it’s kind of unique. It must be tiny inside, you wouldn’t get much in there.”
Other locals say they think the slimmest section of the building is a bathroom. One said: ”It’s a home of multiple occupancy so there’s a lot of coming and going, a lot of different people there.”
Emma, who lives across the road, moved to the area around 18 months ago. With the building undergoing renovation on its roof and facade at the time, she did not get the big reveal until the scaffolding came down.
She told MailOnline: ‘The first time we saw it, we thought it was so odd. It doesn’t quite look like it’s supposed to look. ‘And we’ve always thought, for ages.”
A recent post about the flats on a local Facebook group garnered more than 200 comments and 700 reactions. According to one long-time resident, the building used to be shops.
But all is not as it seems. An aerial picture of the site shows it is in fact a triangular-shaped building, much wider at the other end.
