An investigation by the RCMP has led to charges being laid against three individuals who police allege helped smuggle people from Canada to the United States, the federal force announced on Tuesday.

Edward Alejandro Rojas Sanchez, 24, of Montreal; Julian Camilo Rojas Murcia, 27, of Laval; and Fernando Esparza Dominguez, 33, of Montreal are charged with conspiracy to commit an offence in the United States, under Section 465(3) of the Criminal Code.

Police allege the three men conspired to transport a group of people from Montreal “to an unguarded location on the Canada-U.S. border in the Montérégie region, on at least one occasion.” They allege that each person in the group was required to pay $4,000.

The trio are scheduled to appear at the Montreal courthouse on February 4, 2025.
