Many households are familiar with the damp, mouldy odour that can linger in a washing machine if not cleaned on a regular basis.
Neglecting this household task can lead to musty-smelling clothes and the rapid growth of mould and limescale within the washing drum.
However, an inexpensive item found in many homes can solve these problems with little effort.
The Mrs Hinch Army Cleaning tips Facebook group has highlighted soda crystals as the miracle solution for eliminating mould, mildew, and limescale from your washing machine.
Enthusiasts suggest doing a hot wash with soda crystals directly in the drum and around the rubber seal.
While some prefer running the empty cycle at 90C, others have found success at temperatures exceeding 60C, as reported by The Express.

Carlyne McHugh advises: “Soda crystals packed between rubber and a mug’s worth thrown into the drum. Then set the machine on an empty hot wash, at least 60 degrees.”
Reporting positive results, she explained: “My washing machine had really bad mould and limescale in the seal and drawer, and soda crystals were game-changing. The stuff vanished in one hour on the hot cycle.”
Meanwhile, Sue Clarke recommends: “Soda crystals in every other wash will tackle the mould and even limescale. Wipe out the drawer and seal after every wash.”
The cleaning enthusiasts suggested that for those who haven’t cleaned their washing machine in a while, a second cycle might be necessary.
