Dozens of staff leaving Bristol City Council have signed gagging orders, new figures reveal. A total of 59 people departed in the last five years after agreeing to a non-disclosure agreement (NDA).
The conditions can form part of a severance payoff deal and ban workers from speaking publicly about their ex-employer. The number, which does not include school employees, was released in response to a question by Cllr Graham Morris (Conservative, Stockwood) at a meeting of member forum on Tuesday, January 14.
He asked how many employees had signed an NDA over the last ten years. In a written reply, the council said: “The council implemented its current HR and payroll system in April 2019 and data is therefore only available from this date. Between 2019 and 2024, 59 people left the council’s employment through settlement agreements that included an NDA.
“This does not include data for individual schools.”
