Oven cleaning, often the most procrastinated household chore, becomes increasingly challenging the longer it’s neglected, particularly when it comes to sprucing up the glass door.

Joanne and Tracy from @additivefreelifestyle on Instagram are championing a more natural approach over the myriad of harsh chemical cleaners available.

They’ve impressed followers with an easy lemon-based technique that they assure will “blow you away”, showcasing in a video how lemons can be used to clean not just the glass door but the entire oven, reports the Express.

They wrote: “For years I have used our soft cleaning scrub and although that’s great, it can be a pain to get out and leaves residue sometimes. I’ll never use it again now I know how to do this.

“And I’ll never use the toxic stuff from the shops, which I certainly did before I knew better.”

The duo recommends a “naturally” oven cleaning method by slicing some lemons, placing them in a baking dish with water, and baking at 200C for 30 minutes. This process, akin to a citrus steam bath, is said to act as a natural degreaser, loosening all the stubborn baked-on grime.

Once done, turn off the oven and either leave the door closed to allow it to cool or open it to hasten the cooling, keeping the lemons and water inside. Finally, use the remaining lemon-infused water to wipe down the interior of the oven.

The influencers explained: “With the stubborn areas and racks I rubbed over the cooked lemon and then it easily scrubbed off. You’ll be blown away.”

@kellibrunton shared: “Blown away at how well this worked! I needed to use a scouring pad first, then microfibre for the final clean. I only had 25 minutes before the school run and managed to get the grime away. Thank you! I really didn’t want to use oven cleaner!”
