Peel Regional Police are investigating a homicide after a man was shot before his car crashed early Monday morning around 1:45 a.m. on Dixie Rd., south of Derry Rd. E. in Mississauga.

The single-vehicle crash saw the male adult transported to a local trauma centre where he was initially listed in critical condition before he died from his injuries.

Homicide took over after it was determined he was shot before his car crashed.

Peel Regional Police Const. Richard Chin told reporters at a news conference that shortly before the collision, the victim had been shot in an industrial area near Midway Blvd. and Invader Cres.

“There was some sort of altercation where he was shot,” Chin said. “He attempted to flee the area and consequently ended up crashing.”

No suspect information has been released.

TORONTO MAN CHARGED WITH SUSPECTED HATE-MOTIVATED HARASSMENT

A 37-year-old Toronto man has been charged in connection with a suspected hate-motivated threatening and harassment investigation.

Cops say between Jan. 13, 2023, and Oct. 15, 2024, it’s alleged the accused sent the victim several anti-South Asian text messages and emails that were threatening and harassing in nature.

The victim, who said she received several phone messages and emails from various numbers and email accounts, reported this matter to police and an investigation identified the accused.

On Jan. 19, 2025, Matthew Santoro was charged with harassment by repeated communication with person and uttering threats.

This investigation is being treated as a suspected hate-motivated offence.

WITNESSES SOUGHT AFTER RICHMOND HILL CARJACKING

York Regional Police are appealing for witnesses following a Richmond Hill carjacking.

On Jan. 17, at 5:50 p.m., police say the victim’s Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon was rear-ended by a dark-coloured SUV in the area of Leslie St. and Bethesda Sideroad.

Cops say when the victim got out of the vehicle to assess the damage, a suspect entered his vehicle and drove away and at least three suspects, all wearing dark clothing, were involved.

The first suspect is described as a male, 20 to 30 years-old with a medium build.

The second suspect is described as a male, 20 to 30 years-old, with a skinny build.

The third suspect, who drove away in the victim’s vehicle, had no suspect description.

Officers would also like to speak with any witnesses or anyone who may have video surveillance or dashcam footage in the area at the time of the incident.
