Former Home Secretary Suella Braverman is concerned Labour has done “damage” to Britain’s US ties by expressing disdain for Donald Trump in the past.
Speaking to Steven Edginton on GB News, Braverman let loose at the “idiotic” prime minister in a furious rant ahead of the president-elect’s inauguration.
She urged Starmer to take on board “lessons” from the incoming Trump administration, particularly its approach to border security.
Asked what she would advise Starmer before engaging with Trump, she said: “Stop being an idiot”.

Braverman added: “Keir Starmer and half of the Cabinet voted against Trump’s state visit last time. We have so many figures like David Lammy who have made ridiculous, personal attacks on Donald Trump and they are all trying to backtrack.
“They’re all desperately trying to suck up to President Trump. At best, they are going to be irrelevant.

“At worst, they have done great harm to the UK’s national interest. They have got to grow up, stop playing petty, student politics and actually stand up for the UK.
“Get a free trade agreement, work on ensuring our military and security agreements are robust and learn the lessons of how Donald Trump is securing their border for a start.”
Trump has vowed to sign up to 200 executive orders on his first day back in office, as he prepares to return to the White House.
Speaking at a pre-inauguration rally in Washington DC on Sunday, the president-elect outlined plans focusing on border security, energy and ending diversity, equity and inclusion programmes across federal government.

The announcement came during Trump’s “Make America Great Again Victory Rally” at Capital One Arena, where thousands of supporters gathered despite freezing conditions.
“Starting tomorrow, I will act with historic speed of strength and fix every single crisis facing our country,” Trump told the crowd.
Trump dismissed suggestions to spread the executive orders over several weeks, declaring: “Like hell we’re going to do it over weeks, we’re going to sign them at the beginning.”
The former president promised the “most aggressive, sweeping effort to restore our borders that the world has ever seen.”
“By the time the sun sets tomorrow, the invasion of our country will have come to a halt,” he told supporters.
His incoming national security adviser Mike Waltz confirmed immigration would be among Trump’s first executive actions, along with energy issues and policies targeting diversity programmes.
The inauguration ceremony has been moved inside the Capitol Rotunda due to bitter cold weather forecasts.
