A pet dog who tumbled over a cliff edge at the weekend was reunited with her family after being brought back to safety following a rescue operation.
The incident happened on the evening of Saturday, January 18, when Luna was enjoying an off-lead walk in the Giant’s Causeway area.
Soon after Luna fell over the cliff edge, a coastguard rescue team was tasked and successfully reunited the boxer with her family.

A video posted to social media by the Coleraine Coastguard captured Luna’s dramatic rescue, which took place in the dark.
In the video, a cliff technician is seen with the dog after she was located during the evening rescue.
In a social media post, a spokesperson for the Coleraine Coastguard said that the rescue took place after they responded to reports that a dog had fallen over a cliff edge on the upper path at the Giants Causeway.
They responded along with teams from the Ballycastle and Portmuck Coastguard Rope Rescue Teams.
“A rope rescue technician was lowered over the edge and he was able to locate the animal, thankfully safe and sound,” the social media post continued.
“The dog was brought to the top securely inside our small animal recovery bag and reunited with his family.”
In a post on the Giant’s Causeway Facebook page, a spokesperson for the National Trust praised the Coastguard rescue team for “their quick response” on Saturday.
“Thankfully, it was a happy ending, so no Blue Monday vibes here! We were delighted to hear that Luna the Boxer was returned to her owners safe and sound,” they added.
“We are so grateful for the Emergency Services for their support when we need it at the World Heritage Site.”
Following the dramatic weekend rescue, the Coastguard and National Trust reminded the public to keep their pets on a lead for their safety.
“This is a timely reminder to all of our beloved visitors exploring the Giant’s Causeway with their furry companions to practice the Canine Code guidelines,” said a National Trust spokesperson.
