Sir Rod Stewart has been inundated with supportive messages from his fans after he celebrated his 80th birthday with Rolling Stones legend Ronnie Wood, 77.

The snaps, shared on Instagram, sent fans wild with possibility of a reunion for the iconic 70s rock group Faces.

Faces formed in 1971 and took the early years of the decade by storm with their hit first song Stay With Me.

The band was formed by Small Faces alum Ian McLagan, Ronnie Lane, and Kenney Jones but were bolstered with the soloist vocal talents of Stewart and guitar licks of Wood.

They produced four studio albums together before the group began to dissipate in 1973 with Lane’s departure in that year.

By 1976, Stewart’s solo career was finding major success elsewhere and Wood had moved on to become a permanent Rolling Stones member.

Stewart, Wood and Jones finally reunited in summer 2021 with the promise of a new album but it has yet to release.

Speaking to Vulture in February 2024, Stewart admitted: “We’re still struggling to make this album. We’ll see. Some of them might see the light of day.”

Despite the lack of new releases, the continued friendship of Stewart and Wood has fuelled speculation among fans that a collaboration may still be forthcoming.

“Really fun night celebrating Rod’s 80th!” Wood wrote in his Instagram post.

Along with the message, the Stones icon shared snaps of the birthday bash just days after Stewart mourned the loss of his “hero” Denis Law.

The images showed the pair cheek to cheek and beaming. Also included was a video of them humorously Eskimo kissing and embracing.

Celebrating with the music legends were their wives Penny Lancaster, 53, and Sally Wood, 47.

The joyous post was met with adoration among fans who wished Stewart well in the comments – while others pleaded for a Faces reunion sooner rather than later.

One wrote sweetly: “Love to see you two together. A genuine friendship and clearly lots of fun & love between you. X.”

“WOW! That’s a TRUE friendship that has stood the test of time! Looks like ‘A Real Good Time,’” another commented, referencing one of Faces classic tunes.

Accordingly, the update also prompted a flurry of requests for a full Faces reunion.

One wished: “Happy Birthday @sirrodstewart and I love seeing your friendship continue with your gorgeous wives. You guys should give us a Faces reunion!”

“Sooo when’s the Faces reunion tour?” another asked cheekily.

A third requested: “Love these legends faces reunion please!”

“How I wish these two would work together again,” a fourth wrote wistfully.
