BBC Breakfast’s Sally Nugent didn’t hold back as she playfully chimed in to stop weather expert Carol Kirkwood from breaking into song during the programme.

Sally, alongside co-host Jon Kay, was presenting the latest news headlines from the UK and around the world on the show’s familiar red sofa this Monday morning (January 20).

In a jovial shift, the conversation turned to an upcoming singing venture due to be showcased on the BBC. With Jon proposing that Carol belt out a tune, after providing her weather forecast, he quipped: “Aww, it’s looking pretty grim, isn’t it? In that case Carol, we need a sing a long, you ready for a sing-song?”

Although appearing somewhat bewildered, Carol gamely agreed with a “yes”.

However, Sally quickly jumped in, insisting: “No Carol! Don’t get Carol to sing, no, no!”

Carol appeared grateful for Sally stepping in, and smoothly transitioning to the next topic, Sally hinted at Carol’s potential musical contribution at a football event, referring to the fresh initiative ‘Bantam of the Opera’, reports the Express.

Unveiled by the BBC, the creative project is set to transform Bradford City supporters from crowd chanters to choir performers.

The choir members will receive guidance from none other than Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber, celebrated opera star Lesley Garrett, and renowned sports commentator and TV presenter Chris Kamara.

While visiting BBC Breakfast, both Chris and Lesley shared their enthusiasm for being part of such an extraordinary scheme as they opened up on their love and joy for singing and performing.

During a video call with Sally and Jon, Chris explained: “Obviously, I had my well-documented illness and singing in a way got me through it, you know. Singing in the shower, singing to the horses, trying to get my voice back.”

He then shared: “So when BBC Leeds approached me and said ‘would you get involved in this, it’s part of the City of Culture celebrations and it’s the 40th anniversary of the Bradford fire and we could possibly make funds for the burns unit for Bradford’, I said straight away, I’m in!”

BBC Breakfast airs Monday-Sunday from 6am on BBC One.
