Fans of The Masked Singer have taken to social media to complain about the show’s clues, criticising them for being too obscure. The Masked Singer sees well-known figures perform in elaborate costumes that completely conceal their identities, leaving it up to judges and the audience to try to figure out who’s under the mask.
To try to make it easier, the show shares clues about each contestant, but audiences are complaining that clues are too cryptic, taking the fun out of guessing.
Clues appear during the VTs before each performance, as well as during post-stage interviews, but they might be becoming more of a hinderance than a help.
Many viewers said that if you didn’t recognise the contestant’s voice, it’s “impossible” to guess the singer because of how difficult the clues are.
“The clues are so obscure unless you know the voice of the singer its impossible sometimes”, one fan wrote on social media.
Whilst another added: “How on earth are we supposed to get these clues, I’ll never know. I guess we either know their voice or we don’t”.
Others joked about potential obscure clues: “The Masked Singer clues be like ‘I’m a real ray of sunshine’ and it’s a reference to them buying a house with an east-facing conservatory for the sun on Celebrity Homes Under The Hammer in 2008”.
“The clues are so bad. Literally have someone eating a bowl of Cocopops and the reveal will be like ‘they were eating cereal because their dad was a serial killer'”.
The latest episode which aired Saturday, January 18, saw Carol Decker, the lead singer of 80s group T’Pau, revealed as Tattoo after she was eliminated from the show.
Carol failed to secure enough votes from the studio audience, leading to her unmasking at the end of this week’s episode.
“I’ve loved it and I’m going to say, I’m gutted! Everybody is amazing. I’m gutted because it’s the best fun ever,” she said on her exit.
The Masked Singer airs on ITV and ITVX
