The 28th season of Silent Witness has returned to BBC One, featuring a series of narratives divided into two parts. The third instalment of the season, titled ‘Broken’, will air its first part tonight, January 20, and the second part on Tuesday, January 21.

Upon discovering a woman’s hand in the canal, the Lyell team embarks on a quest to locate the rest of her body. Concurrently, Nikki Alexander (portrayed by Emilia Fox) finds herself navigating the realm of criminal justice.

In another storyline, the wife of a barrister who vanished two years ago while being tormented by a client receives an additional body part in the mail. The regular cast members will all be back, joined by newcomers Maggie Steed as Harriet and Francesca Mills as Kit.

Faith – Kerrie Hayes

Kerrie Hayes, a 38 year old English actress hailing from Liverpool, is one of five siblings.

She made her television debut in the BBC drama Lilies, playing Ruby Moss. Audiences may also recognise her from Holby City, Inspector George Gently, and Brighton Rock.

Liam – David Angland

David Angland graduated from the RADA Youth Company in 2014 and has appeared in The Devil’s Hour, Pistol, and Everything Now.

Dylan – Abdul Sulaiman

Abdul Sulaiman is a South London actor who recently had a guest role in The Crown’s fifth season.

His other credits include Supacell, The A-List, and Witness Number 3.

Sally – Tamzin Outhwaite

Tamzin Outhwaite, a 54 year old English actress and presenter, is best known for her role as Mel Owen in EastEnders. She was previously married to actor Tom Ellis and they have two daughters together.

Interestingly, she is also related to Holly Willoughby’s husband, Dan Baldwin, as his cousin.

Judge Gibbs – Nicky Goldie

Nicky Goldie, a London-born actress, has taken on numerous guest roles in Call the Midwife. Her other credits include Grace, Ruby Speaking and The Pale Horse.

Dev Shah KC – Raj Ghatak

Raj Ghatak, a 51 year old British actor, is recognised for playing Sweetie in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Bollywood musical Bombay Dreams. He also appeared as Grayson in the Channel 4 drama Dead Set.

Gavin Rose – Phil Deguara

Phil Deguara has previously starred in The Death of Stalin, Undercover and Beowulf: Return to the Shieldlands.

Kenneth Rose – Kim Durham

Kim Durham, a Surrey-born actor, initially trained as a teacher before becoming interested in fringe theatre. He voiced a character in the new Wicked film and is probably best known for playing Matt Crawford in The Archers.

DS Blake – Gloria Obianyo

Gloria Obianyo is an actress, singer and musician who has starred in Outlander, Good Omens and Paradise.

David Whitley – Cal MacAninch

Cal MacAninch, a 61 year old Scottish actor, is best known for playing John Keenan in police drama HolbyBlue. He is married to actress Shauna Macdonald and they have three daughters.
