A popular New Year’s resolution for many is to train for a running event in the city. And, luckily for those of us in Bristol faced with the task, there are a wide range of running events taking place here in 2025.

These include half marathons and 10Ks, charity races like Race for Life and even inflatable challenges to really test your stamina. Couch to 5K goals and schemes can get you up and about and moving, introducing you to running in a way that’s flexible for you.

We’ve compiled a list of the ones we know of so far, so if you’re looking to run your way to a medal in 2025, then here are some key dates for your diary. You can also search for your nearest running club for more support and challenges as part of a team.

February

Bristol 5K and 10k Winter Warmer Run

Ashton Court Estate on February 9

With tickets to each race costing £25, this event includes entry benefits including full race chip timing, a medal, snacks, drinks, some surprise goodies and ‘a load of fun, smiles and support’ along the way. The Winter Warmer Runs support the charity Shelter and the goal is to help raise awareness and funds for them.

The course is a mix of trail and path – has a steep incline for the first 2km then levels out before a downhill. The 5k race is one lap and the 10k is two laps, with the course not suitable for wheelchairs.

Bristol Running Show

The 4th Bristol Running Show features a wide range of local and regional exhibitors and guests who will help you get started walking or running and, if you have already made a start, there will be advice and support to help you make greater progress to reach your higher goals. Bristol Brabazon Half Marathon & 10K

Norman Scott Park, Coniston Road, Patchway, on April 6

This flat route starts at the Aztec Lakes around the footpaths and cycleways of Bradley Stoke & Patchway finishing to a musical fanfare at Scott Park and a unique Brabazon Aircraft Inspired Medal, entry for the half marathon costs £40 including chip timing.

Meanwhile, the 10K is a flat route starting at Aztec Lakes and finishing at Scott Park with a Brabazon themed medal. This one costs £25 including chip timing.

Great Bristol Run & 10K

Millennium Square, on May 11

The AJ Bell Great Bristol Run is back on May 11 and 2024 was a complete sell-out, so organisers urge potential runners to get in early to secure your place on the start line. Loved by Bristolians and beyond, the Great Bristol Run is known as ‘the best in the South West’. Each year, thousands of runners push their perseverance and passion to the limit and run Bristol’s super-scenic 10k and half marathon routes. If stunning views, inspiring history and graffiti murals are your thing, this running event is right up your street.

June

Cheddar Gorge Challenge

Warren Farm, Charterhouse, Blagdon, on June 8

This event has a 1km, 3km, 6km, 10km, Half Marathon and Marathon. There is a three hour cut off for runners to start lap two of the marathon. What’s more, there’s also a four event Omnium Challenge where runners take part in a choice of a long distance race (6km, 10km or Half Marathon) + 100m Sprint + 1km Middle Distance + Hill Climb Run.

Runners taking part in the Omnium with a Half Marathon as the long distance race need to complete their run in 3hours 15mins to be ready for the next event. There’s loads more information available to look through on the website.

Race for Life Pretty Muddy Bristol 5k

Clifton Down, Stoke Road, on June 21

Climb, crawl and slide your way around the Pretty Muddy® obstacle course at your own pace. 5k is just over three miles and can take about an hour to complete on average, but there’s no pressure to finish in a certain time – it’s all designed for fun! Get muddy as an individual or with a group of friends or family, act like a big kid and raise money for life-saving cancer research.

Race for Life Bristol 10K

Clifton Down, Stoke Road, on June 22

Looking for more of a challenge without any pressure? Race for Life 10k is for you! The 10k events are now chip-timed, so you can find out if you’ve beaten your personal best – while you’re raising funds to help beat cancer. 10k is just over six miles. Take it at your own pace or push yourself a little more. Have fun with it and enjoy the atmosphere.

Inflatable 5K

North Somerset Showground, Bristol Road, on July 5

This mammoth inflatable obstacle course includes obstacles with names like ‘The Viper’, ‘The Crawler’, ‘The Slapper’, ‘Temple Of Doom’, ‘Beast’, and more. You can choose between 5K, 2.5K, 10K, and 15K routes, with prices starting from £23.50 for children, and £28.50 for adults. Book your space now.

Bristol Epic 10K Trail Run

Ashton Court Estate, Long Ashton, on October 12

The 10k Trail Series begins at the stunning Ashton Court Estate. With some testing climbs, rolling terrain and amazing views of the surrounding areas – the Ashton Court route is ‘exactly what the EPIC 10k trail series is all about – challenging yourself and using your fitness to explore some stunning locations’! There are two main ways you can take on the Ashton Court 10k route:

1) A Standard Trail Run – i.e. just you and your trainers versus the trails.

2)A Ruck Run – i.e. take on the same 10k route but with the addition of a weighted backpack that we provide you with on the day (12kg for men, 8kg for women). There are also a variety of different competitive levels, as well as age categories, to choose from. Find out more and book your slot here.
