A takeaway in South Bristol serves the best Chinese food in the city, according to our readers. Last month, we asked you where you can get the city’s best Chinese.

We then announced the shortlist with the top five that got the most mentions. And, after more than 400 votes were cast, Beijing Express on St John’s Lane, South Bristol, is the clear winner after receiving 183 votes.

The Chinese takeaway has 116 reviews on Google, with an average rating of four. One wrote: “Fantastic Chinese! 10/10 by far the best one I have eaten from in years!

“I’m glad to have found one not far from me – chicken fried rice taste amazing and Chow Main is to die for.”

Giving it a five-star rating, another reviewer said: “Love the food here, always really well cooked and hot.”

“10/10,” wrote another. “Food was delicious and hot when delivered – will be ordering again thank you. And I got free prawn crackers.”

In second place came much-loved Mayflower (79 votes) – which had to relocate as a result of the redevelopment of the Premier Inn by the Bearpit and still hasn’t reopened. Coming third was China Capital on Ashton Road (75 votes), which was followed by Marlings on Marling Road (34 votes) and Xing Wang on Harrowdene Road (30 votes).

In November, we revealed that a pub in Bristol city centre serves the city’s best Sunday roast, according to our readers. After more than 700 votes were cast, The Famous Royal Navy Volunteer on King Street was the clear winner after receiving 310 votes.

We have also found out where the city’s best greasy spoon is. After nearly a thousand votes were cast, Abbots Kitchen on Dundry Road, in Whitchurch, South Bristol, became the winner after receiving 432 votes.
