As Donald Trump prepares to make an announcement on the future of TikTok in the US, GB News asks its members if the social media platform should be banned in the UK.
The incoming President is expected to hand TikTok a 90-day reprieve after the Supreme Court upheld its ban on the social media platform.
TikTok challenged the ban, initiated over national security concerns, amid fears of a violation of free speech, with more than 170 million users in the US alone.
TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew, who is expected to attend Trump’s inauguration with other high-profile guests, even thanked the incoming President for his commitment to work with the app and keep it available in the US.
Despite the ongoing debate in the US, there are no plans to ban TikTok in the UK.
A UK Government spokesman said: “This is a matter for the US government. There are no plans to introduce a TikTok ban in the UK.
“We engage with all major social media companies to understand their plans for ensuring the security of UK data and to ensure they meet the high data protection and cyber security standards we expect.”
