A fire at a commercial premises in Co Londonderry was started accidentally, the NI Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) has said.
Firefighters were called to the scene of the fire at the premises on Craigmore Road in the Coleraine area at around 2.13am on Friday 17 January 2025.
An NIFRS spokesperson said the incident – which lasted more than 24 hours – has now been dealt with.
“A large fire at a commercial premises on Craigmore Road in Coleraine has been dealt with,” they said.
“Our Firefighters worked tirelessly throughout the duration of the incident to ensure that the fire was brought under control and extinguished.
“At the height of the incident over 80 Firefighters and personnel were involved in the operational response.
“We would like to thank the public for their patience whilst we dealt with the incident. There were no injuries and the roads in the area were closed to traffic.
“The cause of the fire is believed to have been accidental ignition and the incident was dealt with by 10.30am.”
The facility is run by commercial waste management company RiverRidge, who said the fire would be subject to an “immediate and thorough” investigation.
“Both the Health and Safety Executive and Northern Ireland Environment Agency have been notified,” said company CEO Brett Ross.
“Contingency plans for the company have been enacted and we have alerted key customers to assure them of our ongoing services. The collection of waste is ongoing, although there will be some disruption/delays to the likes of our skip services.
“I would like to thank the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service for their immediate response and support and apologise for any inconvenience caused to our neighbours.
“No one has been injured during the incident.”
