Peel Regional Police have charged an 18-year-old Mississauga man in connection with two violent carjackings earlier this month.
Police say a 72-year-old man was in his driveway in the area of Airport Rd. and Morning Star Dr. on Thursday when he was approached by two suspects who assaulted and threatened him while making demands for the keys to his vehicle.
The victim suffered minor injuries as a result of the assault and the suspects fled the area in his vehicle, cops said.
According to police, officers quickly found and intercepted the stolen vehicle. Following a pursuit on foot, one of the suspects was arrested. The second suspect got away, cops added.
Investigators allege the man arrested is also responsible for a carjacking that took place on Jan. 9, in the area of Airport Rd. and Derry Rd. E. in Mississauga.
In that incident, police said four suspects approached a 75-year-old man who was in his driveway and assaulted him before fleeing in his vehicle.
Aqib Aqib has been charged with two counts each of robbery and disguise with intent.
