Molly-Mae Hague’s new series promised to be more than just a ‘break-up documentary’ – but after viewing the initial three episodes, I struggle to find a more apt description.
As a dedicated Love Island enthusiast – having been hooked since season four – I was excited to discover that the influencer would be making an unfiltered return to our screens.
In contrast to her polished persona in the villa, Molly-Mae: Behind It All offers audiences a genuine glimpse into her everyday life, from the challenges of motherhood to her McDonald’s order.
Speaking at the documentary’s launch, the 25-year-old star hinted that viewers might be taken aback by the intimacy of the six-part series. She wasn’t wrong, and I found myself pleasantly surprised by the TV personality’s openness throughout the programme.
However, she was also insistent that this is not simply a ‘break-up documentary’ – a point on which I beg to differ.
“Obviously, we do talk about the break-up and it [the documentary] does discuss the break-up and we’re very honest in what we share about the break-up. But it’s so much more than a break-up documentary, it focuses on parts of my life that I haven’t really delved into before,” she stated.
Within moments of the first episode, we hear fragments of news presenters announcing Molly-Mae’s separation from boxer Tommy Fury. My favourite snippet, which admittedly earned more than a chuckle from me, was the male newsreader who quipped: “Some are even comparing it to this generation’s Charles and Diana.”
At the start of the show, I remained optimistic. After all, I had only viewed less than five minutes and there were two more episodes to come.
Regrettably, the subsequent hour sticks to the same narrative. Whenever Molly-Mae graced the screen, Tommy was bound to make an appearance, either via Facetime or in conversation.
While she was on set capturing promotional images for her fashion label, Maebe, Tommy briefly rang to update her on their daughter Bambi. This call, like many others throughout the series, instigated another round of direct-to-camera interviews discussing their split.
Of course, it would be unrealistic to anticipate no reference to the break-up; the pair’s abrupt parting last summer sent shockwaves through the internet. Understandably so, as the 25-year-olds fell in love on national television and fans have followed their romance every step of the way.
However, Molly-Mae is plenty interesting without the need to mention her former fiancé. It was enlightening to watch her chat with her mum, Debbie, about alcohol addiction, providing a glimpse into the entrepreneur’s upbringing. Yet predictably, the discussion revolved around Tommy’s alleged issues with alcohol and, consequently, their separation.
Another memorable aspect of the series is Molly-Mae’s bond with her sister Zoe Rae, who confessed to having a rocky relationship with her sister’s beau. Unfortunately, their enjoyable car ride scene in the first episode – where they spontaneously burst into song in true Carpool Karaoke fashion – was abruptly cut short to delve back into the topic of the break up.
If I were to pick the standout episode from the three-part series recently released on Amazon Prime, it would undoubtedly be the second instalment.

AmazonIn this episode, the former Love Island star revisits her hometown of Hitchin and charts her journey to fame; from her humble beginnings working at a local Boots store to gaining popularity through social media and eventually making a name for herself on ITV.
The episode beautifully encapsulates why the mother-of-one is so adored, portraying her as an ordinary girl who has worked hard to build an enviable life for herself. However, the third episode abruptly shifts focus from Molly-Mae’s story, opening with a phone call between the former couple.
To label Molly-Mae: Behind It All as anything more than a break up documentary would be generous. It is , in essence, a break up documentary – but only one of the exes showed up to the filming
Molly-Mae: Behind It All eps 1-3 launched exclusively on Prime Video on 17thJanuary. The latter three episodes will drop in Spring 2025.
