Northern Ireland star Toni-Leigh Finnegan says she has gotten the ‘big move’ she was dreaming of after joining Aberdeen.

The holding midfielder has swapped the red of Cliftonville for a move to the Balmoral Stadium where she will compete in the Premier League 1, the highest level of women’s football in Scotland.

The 23-year-old was crucial in helping Northern Ireland qualify for their first ever major tournament at Euro 2022, playing a key role in their Play-Off against Ukraine, although she missed the tournament due to injury.

However, she has been a prominent figure under Tanya Oxtoby off the back of sensational performances for Cliftonville, with whom she won the domestic treble last season.

Finnegan also has European experience with Cliftonville having faced Benfica in the Champions League, which caught the eye of Aberdeen manager Scott Booth, and the midfielder is thrilled to get her shot across the water.

“I’m really excited to be at Aberdeen. It is a big move in my career, and I’m excited to get started and learn from Scott and the rest of the girls. I feel like this is the natural next step for me,” she commented.
