A 24-year-old man is accused of trying unsuccessfully to rob a downtown bank Tuesday morning.

Toronto Police say a man walked into the bank near King St. E. and Parliament St. shortly after 10 a.m. and approached a teller.

“He gave the teller a note demanding money,” Const. Ashley Visser said in a statement released Wednesday.

She said the man then walked behind the counter and snatched the teller’s cellphone, but he was then confronted by another bank employee and ran off.

“No money was obtained,” Visser said.

Officers responded to the scene and arrested a suspect.

Crist Adumatta, of Toronto, is charged with robbery, theft under $5000 and possession of property obtained by crime

The accused is expected to appear in court for a bail hearing on Wednesday.
