Robson Green was left “devastated” after he was given a brutal one-word label during his medical for a recent job.

The actor has spent more than 30 years on screens after landing the role of hospital porter Jimmy Powell in Casualty in 1989. Since then he has starred in hits such as ITV’s Wire in Blood, Soldier Soldier and Grantchester, as well as filming fishing documentaries, reports the Daily Record.

Despite reaching this milestone, Robson doesn’t believe in marking the occasion, instead aiming to make “every day special”. He recalled looking at individuals in their sixties during his youth and thinking, “how are you still alive”.

In an interview with Woman’s Weekly, Robson shared his emotional reaction: “Funnily enough, I had a medical recently for a job I did and the guy referred to me as elderly. I was devastated.”

He resisted the labels that come with age, saying, “That’s what people do when you’re 60. I don’t want their awe, their pity or the label of being older.”

Robson, who didn’t indulge in champagne to celebrate his 60th, explained that he is not much of a drinker, having reduced his alcohol consumption 15 years ago. In the past, he might have enjoyed “a few wines or a champagne” at night but disliked the ensuing “fuzzy head”.

Nowadays, he prefers a glass of sparkling water for its “clarity,” which he finds “great”.

Rather than taking off time to celebrate, Robson remains dedicated to his career, currently filming a new drama in Spain alongside Jason Watkins of The Crown fame.

When he’s not gracing our screens as an actor, Robson Green is passionate about creating documentaries on fishing and exploring the beauty of Northumberland, his beloved home county. The celebrity enjoys life in the North East with his partner Zoila Short and maintains a close bond with his 24-year-old son Taylor, whom he shares with his ex-wife Vanya Seager.

In addition to his acting chops, Robson has taken on the role of producer for the hit series Grantchester, where he also stars as DCI Geordie Keating. Now in its thrilling ninth season, the show follows Keating as he collaborates with a local vicar to crack various cases.

While his co-star Tom Brittney is set to exit the series, following in the footsteps of James Norton, Robson remains excited about the production. He has shared that the cast experiences “the most wonderful time” while filming.

Catch the latest episodes of Grantchester series nine on Wednesdays at 9pm on ITV One and ITVX.
