Twenty-four days after John George was reported missing in Spain, a body was found.

John George, also known as John Hardy, had travelled to Alicante in early December for a holiday.

The west Belfast man contacted his family for the last time on the 14th of December, four days later his flight home left without him.

His family soon voiced fears the 37-year-old father-of-two from Twinbrook had been murdered.

Then on Christmas Eve, those fears deepened as a video emerged showing Mr George appearing intoxicated in an apartment. As the days passed, John’s father said he accepted his son was “likely dead”.

The Belfast Telegraph can now reveal that Mr George’s return flight, which was booked for the 18th December, was booked in the days following his death.

A 32-year-old man from the Czech Republic, arrested in connection with his death, has been released on bail after appearing in court in Alicante.

Belfast Telegraph crime correspondent Allison Morris, who was in Spain investigating the disappearance, joins Ciarán Dunbar.
