Dollingstown and Moyola Park progressed to the sixth round of the Clearer Water Irish Cup after rearranged ties.

But it was a nervy night for both clubs as they squeezed through by a fine margin.

Ballyclare Comrades began life under new manager Barry Baggley with victory over Newry City at Dixon Park in the Playr-Fit Championship, however in the Cup they were shot down 1-0 by Premier Intermediate side Dollingstown.

Aaron Duke slotted in the decisive goal in the 83rd minute at Planters Park to keep the surprises coming in the tournament. Dollingstown, sitting second in the PIL, earned a sixth round clash with Premiership basement side Loughgall.

At Mill Meadow, Kenny Shiels’ side saw off Belfast Celtic in a penalty shoot-out after the tie finished scoreless after extra-time.

The Ballymena League Intermediate Division One side battled all the way against the Premier Intermediate League fourth-placed side but they lost out 7-6 on spot-kicks.

Moyola Park, the first winners of the Irish Cup in 1880-81, will host Ards who rocked Ballymena United, in the next round.

The sixth round ties will be played on the weekend of January 31.

I’ve just enjoyed the unique experience of watching a penalty shoot-out live on Moyola Park’s Facebook page, filmed on a very shaky mobile phone.

And I gather by the celebrations Moyola Park have won! They will host Ards in the next round.

It was a brave effort by Stute but a late Fra McCaffrey goal puts Loughgall into the Sixth Round.

That sets up a derby clash with Dollingstown set to welcome Loughgall to Planter’s Park on February 1.
