A major change could be coming to Doritos, and fans aren’t liking it.

Doritos have been around since 1964, and were rolled out across the United States two years later.

As long as they have been around, Doritos have always been made in a triangular shape.

While different flavours have come and gone, the shape of the orange tortilla chips have remained the same — though we can’t forget the 3D versions.

But Doritos lovers in the U.K. could be seeing square-shaped versions of the chips (or “crisps,” as they say across the pond) if they are to believe a social media post from the chipmakers.

The @DoritosUK Instagram account shared an image of a square-shaped crisp, with the caption, “The shape of things to come.”

That set the Dorito-verse off, with one person bluntly commenting, “Nobody, and I mean NOBODY wants a f***ing square dorito.”

A second person added: “Don’t mess up with my triangle!”

A third user compared it to a “Cheez-It,” while another snacker lamented, “Noooo, you’ve already ruined them with this new ‘bolder crunch.’”

One commenter predicted, “Mark my words, the shape change will be to take emphasis off of a change in bag size from 180g to 150g but for the same price. Betcha.”

It’s unclear whether the possible change of shape for Doritos will be a worldwide switcharoo, but the brand’s social media accounts in Canada and the United States haven’t shared the same square image.

“The news isn’t ready to be shared quite yet, but great to know how much interest there is in the shape of our chips,” a Doritos spokesperson said, according to the Daily Mail.

“As you’ve now seen, square Doritos are something we’re exploring and we’ll reveal more officially later this month.”
